“Why I Bought Apple Stock”

It all started with the iPod.  Then came their request for an iPod Touch. “Dad, if you get me an iPod Touch, I’ll never ask you for anything else ever again”.  As a parent, we have all heard that line before, more than once. 

We then needed an iMac desktop computer for the house.  And slowly APPLE invaded our household, with the iPads that were required for school, the iPhones that were necessary to know when and where to pick the kids up after school, and then the MacBook which was necessary to be able to do homework from anywhere.

I recall seeing my child sitting on the couch, with the MacBook in her lap, the iPad sitting at her side and the iPhone in her left hand, and asking, “which one of those things are you looking at?” And her response, “all of them!”  Who am I to argue with a kid who was getting great grades in school.

I walked away, thinking to myself, “with all the money that I’ve spent on these APPLE products, I could have owned the company by now”.  And seeing those long lines of people camped outside of the APPLE store, the day before a new product launch, absolutely convinced me that I needed to own some APPLE stock.  So, I bought some!

Since then, we have accumulated multiples of iPhones, AirPods, iPads, APPLE Watches and lightning cables of every length imaginable, and APPLE stock of course.  And while all of the APPLE products that I purchased didn’t increase in value over time, the APPLE stock that I purchased did. Not only did my APPLE stock increase in value, they multiplied due to several stock splits APPLE has executed over the last 10 years. So, how do I feel about my APPLE investment decision?  It’s been one of my best investment decisions ever! “Thanks kids!”
